I had the deflate module activated, but removing /etc/apache2/mods-
enabled/deflate.* and restarting apache did not fix the problem.

I moved /lib/i686 to /lib/i686.old and restarted apache. Did not fix the
problem. Here is /proc/cpuinfo (this is on linode):
