It's been a very very long time since I've last ran a Windows virtual
machine on Ubuntu, so I can't really tell. I do remember I never got it
"fixed", but did find a fix for it by disabling the Windows power plan
option "Allow Windows to put this device to sleep". Over the years I did
get some
I also suffer from this issue for a long time. All my computers work
fine, however my Ubuntu homeserver running virtual machines have
problems when I try to connect to them over IPv6 locally. They work at
first and then suddenly it stops working due to the neighbour
advertisement not reaching my
I'm having a similar issue. I have disabled Route Advertisement
(accept_ra=0) in sysctl.conf file, but at boot I still get a default
IPv6 route to my router with an RA flag, which means it was assigned
using a ra.
The default route expires soon after the boot, as it does not get
renewed. This
Apparently, this issue was caused by the host having high utilisation on
the CPU on host boot. This caused the guests to not have their
interfaces configured in time. The link on an interface can be up while
the interface itself is not yet fully initialised. This causes the
networking-services to
I'm having a similar issue on Ubuntu 16.04 as host. When the guests are
on autostart and I boot the host, I can see an error message on the
guests' while booting: "Failed to start Raise network interfaces".
I've tried the methods above by adding a sleep to the init file.
however, the init file

Using the latest upstream version the bug still exists. I have to
disable the option that Windows can put the USB Input Device to sleep in
order to make the mouse move again.

I'm using 14.04. I could give it a try. Is it easy to revert to the
older version of Qemu once upgraded to the upstream one?

I am now installing Windows 7 SP1 x64 to see if it suffers from the same
bug/problem. I'll report back when I have more information!

I can confirm that this bug/problem does not seem to exist in Windows 7
SP1 x64! I could use this version of Windows w/ my external hard drives,
but it's strange that this exact same set-up does not work on Windows 8
(causing the vnc mouse to freeze). This could and should be a Windows 8
driver
I finally found a fix for this bug/problem! It is in fact a bug, but I
don't know wether it is a Windows bug or a Qemu/VNC-bug. After
connecting a massive storage device to the Windows 8.1 guest, the mouse
stops working because it goes into a sleep-state.
This bug can be fixed by going to WIN +

Thanks for the response!
Yes, the hard drive does become available in the Windows vm. I can use
it as I would normally do in a non-virtual environment. I have not yet
tried any other Windows version. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64.
