I see I made another mistake when I submitted the bug. I am not running
Ubuntu, I'm running Windows Vista SP1
I did make a new user account and the problem still exists. Every time
I uncheck 'clear private data on exit', the next time I open firefox it
is checked again.

When I installed exit I noticed it was clearing my private data on exit
(which I did not want). I went into my options and unchecked this.
Every time I close firefox it's checked again and clears my data. I
tried changing other details
I need to add that 'alsa force-reload' works for me, but it's fare from
optimal...
