After updating to Kubuntu 13.10 beta, I was running KDE as usual.
However, when I chose Gnome, gnome-shell did not load and I did not have
a window manager. I had no command runner either.
Fortunately, I had a terminal shortcut on my desktop (that means
nautilus did start).

process which in itself creates another bug. Nautilus is such an
aggressive application that it will try to take over the desktop.
