Running scsi_id does nothing (no results, no errors, no atacb commands).
Running stock ata_id:
creates atacb command 0xEC (ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE)
hangs, usb reset after 30s
HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for
So this is what ata_id is up to:
disk_scsi_inquiry_command trying v4
disk_scsi_inquiry_command trying v3
disk_identify_command trying v4
disk_identify_command trying v3
*the latter sends 0xEC via cypress_atacb.c and it hangs
main trying HDIO_GET_IDENTITY
*that fails with Invalid argument

How can this be a bug in xscreensaver, if you have gnome-screensaver
running?
BTW, use xscreensaver-command -exit instead of killall.

I don't think xscreensaver can do anything about this. If it is told to
lock the screen, it will ask for password to unlock it. This must
probably be fixed in the application that manages the user switching.

The xserver-xorg-video-r128 which is installed by default is the
supported, native driver for this card. Please run apport-collect
928630 to attach more information and log files. It would be nice if
you could try Ubuntu 12.04 (for instance Beta 2) for this.
