GDM was used instead of lightdm, so I uninstalled it (sudo aptitude
remove gdm), it told me to uninstall also gdm-guest-session. And it told
me to run dpkg-reconfigure lightdm. But it fails, so I have to
manually launch sudo lightdm from TTY1 to log in.

I had the same problem. But then, I noticed the unity plugin had been
deactivated in ccsm. If I activate it, it complains about some keyboard
shortcuts conflicts (static switcher, gnome compatibility, …). I
resolved them and I have compiz back! :)
No idea why it had been deactivated, though…

But if I try to activate « Unity grab handles » plugin, it crashes:
