Actually, with Gutsy Gibbon (fully updated) I still have the problem:
1) Fresh install
2) Right-click on Clock docklet, choose Adjust Date/Time
3) Choose Keep synchronized with internet servers in the Configuration list
4) Confirm to install NTP support
Now the dialog gets rid of the date widget

The same here, using Ghrome look. Got some bad pointer error while using
print... and lots of menu features. OpenOffice.org really need to be fixed
nor the sub-libs related to this problem.
Best regards

rangzen was an id/gid 1000/1000 and I changed them by hand after the
installation (7.04), maybe some files that I didn't change was used

Artur,
An updated package that fixes this has just been uploaded and should be
built soon.
Martin,
There seems to be a conflict beetween my package and xfce. I will
investigate on this.

This sounds like a 64bit-only problem.
I've rolled out a 64bit specific package based on upstream 64bit tarball. Can
you test with this one ?

The re-install loop is a more general problem, either in apt or in
launchpad (see Bug 152317)
For the failed re-install, I can't reproduce it.
Can you purge the package, install it, then issue /etc/init.d/vmware stop ?
If Virtual ethernet keeps failing, can you issue rmmod vmnet manually ?

Tim,
Which version of my package are you using ? (older ones have dependencies
problems)
What is your architecture ? (amd64 may have dependencies problems)
What distrib are you using ? (ubuntu/kubuntu/xubuntu)
Do you have libgtk2.0-0 installed ?

vmware-player not installable
I saw exactly the same behaviour with several other packages in various
PPAs (which are not always essential)
For example in my ppa vmware-player keeps reinstalling, but not vmware-
player-kernel-modules and vmware-player-kernel-modules-2.6.14-* whereas
they are built from the same source
Yes, I'm working on an updated package.
It should be available tomorrow.

No, modules that went into linux-ubuntu-modules 2.6.22-14.36 are those from
vmware-tools (for inside the _guest_).
vmware-player still requires _host_ modules to run

An updated package has been uploaded to my ppa and will appear soon in
the repository.
I'll try to keep this up to date after gutsy release if necessary, but I
hope something can be done officialy
