This install of zappity which has been in use for about 2 weeks now, and
have upgraded at least 4 times. I keep thinking it will be fixed by the

Additional information which I noticed on my system:
I didn't notice in Ubuntu 10.10 or prior (back to 7.10), but 11.10
definitely complains that my BIOS is not setting the interrupts, and I
can see the screen where it complains after trying several times that my
EDID is not acceptable.

I finally went into a terminal and used 'apt-get remove' to remove all
of the error causing packages, one by one, then re-installed grub and
other packages as needed to restore functioning and updating.
As reported above, automatic re-configuring did not work.

I finally copied the ~/.pulse folder from an alternate user I set up to
check if it was just the default user which had the problems with no
sound. That fixed my problem, but I don't know why the alternate user
worked and the original (default) user did not.
