I confirm that lid close action is set to lock screen, but when the lid
is re-opened, the desktop and open applications are visible, the mouse
moves but cannot click, and there is no unlock dialog. If I blindly
type my password and press enter, I'm able to interact with the computer
again.

I'll also include my apt history. The issue started after the update on
April 4, 08:38:07. Be kind, I had no idea what was wrong, so I did a
lot of silly stuff trying to fix it.

I've attached /var/lib/ucf/cache/\:etc\:default\:grub I do not
understand - this shows 'quiet' and 'splash' and doesn't include the

happy if this is a "just me" thing. But here's what happened. Today
around 8:30am on Ubuntu 18.04.2 HWE, I performed an apt update and apt
upgrade. Among the things that got upgraded was for grub-common,
Mine broke on upgrade from 14.04 -> 15.10 -> 16.04 64 bit. I removed
the multiverse repository, reloaded, added it back in, reloaded, then
from the command line, reinstalled ubuntu-restricted-extras. For some
reason, Synaptic wasn't installing anything. It just blinked and said

This problem is most definitely caused by faulty hardware. It's either
caused by the motherboard, or more likely, the video card. My M6500 has
both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10 on it. With the FX2800 card, black
screens on boot-up/wake-from-suspend were somewhat frequent, but
eventually levelled
(at least 64-bit installs of Ubuntu 13.10)

13.04 64-bit on my main machine and if I double-click on an ISO and
Brasero opens to burn it, even if I just cancel out of that window,

double-click on an ISO and launch Brasero that way. If I open Brasero
*first*, tell it I want to burn an image, and then choose the ISO,

This is incorrect behavior. Here's why: If you enter the command
sudo wondershaper eth0 clear
It will say Queues Cleared. They are not. The packet shaping is
still in effect for eth0. This is not correct information. It would be
one thing if it gave an error message if this were entered.
Lonnie, if you feel comfortable making the changes, you could try using
dconf editor and seeing if the above settings help you. I know that
this isn't the proper update-fix you're looking for, but this is all I'm
able to do myself.

I rolled back all the installed apport packages from ubuntu7 to ubuntu5,
rebooted, and no fix. Also completely removed apport, rebooted, and

I have tried signing in as different users on the same machine, and
calling apport-gtk from the commandline and pointing it to a crash file.
It worked as expected, but it still did not open a firefox tab. I
tested this on a different computer running 12.04, and it's doing the
