I have discovered that using the GUI to share a folder (via right-clicking in Nautilus) does not make any changes to smb.conf - I'm not sure where the information is stored, but I'm guessing it's somewhere in gconf (a quick check in gconf-editor didn't turn it up, but I'm not a gconf expert).

OK, I can verify that the change to the workgroup setting is now in effect. As far as I can tell this is a result of restarting nmbd (I didn't restart it explicitly but as a consequence of booting the machine.) I'm glad to hear that samba works correctly for you. Unfortunately it does not work

I successfully installed phpmyadmin today while in a KDE session. After installing it I logged used it to log into the mysql server and add a user. Then I did several hours' worth of unrelated stuff. Logged out and logged into a GNOME session (as same user) and received error notification in
