Just so you know i deleted the xorg.conf and the pc was working fine as i told
you.
Then today suddenly i could not see a larger resolution than 800x600, when i
put back the auto-generated xorg.conf it works fine. I looked at the both
xorg.0.log and old and they appear to be the same

You can go to /etc/default/grub and edit the line to remove quiet splash
after editing that file, use sudo update-grub in a terminal to make it take
effect
