I can say that some of my friends have this issue also either with Jaunty or
with karmic beta. I don't re-open it because I cannot test it (I currently use

Steve, the fact it's that it is a usability bug or, at least, a wishlist
bug request. You know that there there are hundreds of this bug type
(see at bug with wishlist tag) in this bug database: at this point, for
consistency, we should mark invalid all bug with wishlist requests or

The workaround
I tried again to re-install 9.10 but the same issue happens (obviously I
tried to umount my CDROM from virtualbox menu)
Unfortunately I don't use VirtualBox OSE so I know that it's not a
supported software for Ubuntu but I thought that it could be an issue
that is present also with real hardware

Pedro, I made a test with Jaunty but the issue is the same also in that
distro. In fact my camera was recognised as c-2040z.

olympus c-740 is recognised as olympus c-2040z with f-spot
Invoking NetworkManager (from root) directly, when the issue happens, doesn't
run for me (NetworkManager goes in crash when I invoke it).
Tested always with Hardy.

Well Pedro, consider that it's not mandatory that on this computer
account is the default one. So you can create for many reasons other
accounts and you only want to display the default. For some reasons on
this computer accounts cannot be renamed (bug #399167) and hidden.
