I can confirm this bug. I haven´t seen the duplicate mouse cursor. X crashes
immediately.

OK, This bug was resolved for me with adding acpi_cpufreq to
/etc/modules and removing things like
cpufreq_conservative
cpufreq_ondemand
cpufreq_powersave
cpufreq_stats
cpufreq_userspace
fuse
from this.
I have to state that I don´t run a Woodcrest, but a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
