I just now saw your request and have installed the latest Ubuntu 14.04

First I needed to install:
sudo apt-get install python-apport
Then I ran:
apport-collect 1242767
The apport finished without incident. I needed to boot using

Also, the freeze happens not just using Systems Settings, but also at
unknow times. Usually some sort of graphics usage. Also

I just tried using the added IOMMU to my linux string as per the link above:
iommu=soft swiotlb=131072
Of course with nomodeset it never fails. I then remove nomodeset but
kept iommu=soft swiotlb=131072, and it never fails ( or hasn't yet).
Apparently newer boards have the IOMMU on
Actually using Kubuntu. All I have to do is use nomodeset on first boot
after install. After that it boots normally without it.
This nouveau bug is present on 14.04 testing, on each daily install.

Every time I open gnome-settings to make any changes to settings. Trying to
close the window, freezes to computer.
It appears I can set any of the settings, but when clicking on the x to close
What happened to me was I remove evolution which removed indicator-datetime. On
next boot seeing that the clock was missing, I re-installed indicator-datetime
which also added evolution and then my clock was back.

After further analysis I believe the problem is in the integrated video:
nvidia 6150se nforce 430.
This problem occurs both using Ubuntu 13.10 Unity and Ubuntu-gnome 13.10
When I installed nvidia-304 proprietary program it doesn't happen.
So the bottom line is nouveau is the problem area and
I just installed today's ubuntu saucy ISO [ saucy-desktop-amd64.iso
07-Oct-2013 07:48], which still had the color rainbow on the launcher
and panels.
After it was installed I ran all current updates which included mesa.
Now everything is fixed.
This also fixed gnome saucy which had some unusual
I also use the loop-back method. When using Try Ubuntu, then trying to
launch the Install icon, nothing happens. If I use the Install from the
first menu, then Ubiquity finishes to completion.

The above screenshots are chronological order. As you can see, my
original partition size was 15331, but ubiquity installer wants to
increase it to 15332. I never instructed to increase the size.
I re-booted and tried again, with the same results.

I have similar issues as rmvd. Using either 295.49 or 295.20 same issue.
R-clicking any menu and it takes several seconds for menu to appear.
Before it was instantaneous.

I'm using amd64 install, with nvidia geforce 6150 SE integrated, NVIDIA-
Linux-x86_64-295.20.run driver.
My problem is the focus. It takes several seconds for the focus to
appear or disappear. It may be related to this report.

When I press the Print Screen button,
With nvidia 295.20, I have the same issue, and it takes many times
pushing against the left wall before the launcher appears.
With nvidia 295.10 installed, I have no problem with the launcher
appearing with slights push.

simple-scan crashed with
Your right. Simple Scan works. It failed using Ubuntu Precise alpha 2.
Finding this bug report I was under the impression it was Simple Scan
issue. Interesting is xsane work using Ubuntu Precise.
Simple works without failure under Fedora 16.

Simple Scan failed on Precise before I installed xsane. Xsane work on
Precise, so I didn't retest Simple Scan again on Precise.
I will test again on Precise after I install a new iso and without
xsane. If it again fails I will try Simple Scan with xsane
If simple Scan doesn't support our hardware, then why does it work at
all? Most of us using Simple Scan have scanned documents without issue.
Its when we scan multiple documents that Simple Scan fails.
If it didn't work at all, then I could conclude its another piece of the
