Public bug reported:

In order to aid the transition to python3 we should ship as many python3 
packages as possible quantal.
The version 1.7-2 in debian experimental now has python3 packages and we should 
sync it.
It builds, installs and upgrades in quantal, has a testsuiteThe python2 
packages are almost unchanged so the risk of regressions is low.
