I've switched to a new laptop with 8G in stead of 4G memory, and did not
run into the problem yet (it was a real usability problem for me). If I
can find the time, I'll try and (over)load my memory, go through a
suspend cycle and see if I can (or cannot) reproduce.

After resuming from suspend, on average one in five times excessive
swapping starts. This often continues for several minutes, but sometimes
even for ten minutes or more (I'm not always patient enough to sit it

OK, results are a bit mixed. I'll summarize again. I've tested suspend/resume
cycles on a fresh boot, running at ~50% memory load:
1) mainline (3.7.0-030700rc5), unity-2D: no apparent problems
2) latest kernel (3.2.0-33-generic #52-Ubuntu), unity-2D: no apparent problems

Just had 10 successive snappy resumes running on mainline, with about 1.8G
allocated (and 2M going into swap).
For fair comparison, I'll boot back into the previous kernel and repeat this
testing procedure.

Running on the previous kernel (3.2.0-32-generic #51-Ubuntu) and unity-3D I had
a slow resume on the fifth time (conditions similar to those in #14, but now
running unity-3D - apparently mainline kernel caused fallback to unity-2D).

Ah, great. A MS Windows tool for bios upgrading. I don't think it will be
working from Wine or VirtualBox :-(
I'll ask tech support to update my bios for me and get back to you when that's

FYI, I've gone from F.12 07/31/2009 to F.19 06/08/2010 (latest is F.20 but that
only updates the flash procedure).
Also, yesterday I reduced kernel swappiness from 60 (default) to 10 (as
recommended by htp://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/bugs); this
already seemed to improve things
