Update: Something I noticed that seems consistent is that ever time ctrl+alt without an f-key takes me to the full screen terminal, it is always tty4. I also noticed that this tends to happen after pressing alt+f4 (which makes sense), but I can't see the connection. -- You received this bug

I found out some more info on this bug. It seems that the F4 key is getting virtually stuck. I am coming to this conclusion because at times when I hold down alt, all my windows will start closing - a hint that alt+f4 is being pressed. This also supports the above case where pressing ctrl+alt
