Hi Kevin. Thanks for attaching logs. It's helpful if you can test with
the development version (gutsy) if possible since that will have more
recent hardware support and is closer to the code the developers are
working with daily. Important fixes from Gutsy can in some cases be
backported to
Sorry, forgot to mention that you can get the latest development version
by installing the latest tribe CD:

Hi Kevin,
Just to doublecheck - what is the version of the latest xserver-xorg-
video-intel driver that you are using?
If you can post a copy of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file when using the
intel driver, we can find the version number.
Kyle has built a 2.0.0 version of the -intel driver which

Hi Kevin,
One other piece of info - unfortunately the lspci didn't reveal the
particulars of your graphics chipset. Is it using intel graphics? If
so, could you try installing xorg-xserver-video-intel and changing
vesa to intel in your xorg.conf, and see if it works?
Even if that does fix it,
Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, the output
from lspci, and the output from xrandr -q.
Thanks,
Bryce
