I just stumbled on this bug.
Mplayer and totem both are bearably slow.
Avi files and mkv files are slow, didn't test anything else.
I tried mplayer and totem.
The hardware:
Xinerama setup on two nvidia cards, driver: 180.44-0ubuntu1
Restarting also as describeb by Bob Henz works, the terminal
I have the same problem and found that I can run the following
command...
sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload
This will remove and re-load all of the ALSA drivers. After doing this I
have sound back AND video's play normally!
