It doesnt always happen please try different combos of which window you group
first
and which is showing when you hide
also can happen with banshee tray icon and any app

Could you please post your compiz profile as a flat-file? you can do this
through the compizconfig settings manager using export .

I can't reproduce your bug. If I click the tray icon the window gets ungrouped.
If I click the tray icon again the window comes back but stays ungrouped. No
wrong animations either.
If anyone else can reproduce this bug you can fill out a bug report upstream.

It is possible this is a combination of compiz plugins not playing nicely as I
have
noticed intermittent behaviour, can you try again with as many of the compiz
plugins as possible

Yes, you already mentioned you are using gutsy. But to be sure it is better to
say what versions you are actually using.
Can you reproduce this bug with another program with tray functionality? For
example rhythmbox?

Theres little point asking for version numbers when I update daily and they
quite often change
The nature of the bug has changed and can also be replicated with another app
in this case banshee and a terminal window
group banshee main window and any other window
click banshee tray icon
