I have moved to Hardy Heron Alpha 4 via fresh install from Live CD.
after trying a

as suggested by someone to fix another constantly crashing program.

I'm not sure how to run xchat.
I don't know how to reproduce the bug.
All my var/crash files seemed to have disappeared after I switched from a user
to root.
You can probably close for now, I will update, upgrade, dist-upgrade and see if
it comes up again and report.
