"gio monitor" does not
Thank you for your bug report, indeed that's an upstream bug which was fixed
after .1 but before .3. The fix is in the current bionic version

I can confirm that it does not work in ubuntu 17.10, but does work in
Fedora 27 (which has glib 2.54.3
