Anton: your issue sounds like you've accidentally installed the -386 kernel
image (as a dependency of virtualbox-ose-modules-386). To fix it, just remove
the linux-image-2.6.24-16-386 again (and the packages that depend on it). You
probably want to use the -generic kernel (or also install the ke

I'm now looking into uploading the new module for hardy-proposed.
Anton, you may want to ask in the support forums. Generally, you need
virtualbox-ose and virtualbox-ose-modules(-generic). You could also try
the Virtualbox provided by virtualbox.org, which
I forgot to mention that I am running on AMD64 and I'm not sure if that
makes a difference.

It would seem with the current 2.6.24-17 kernel release that virtual box
has stopped functioning and there is no kernel module for that kernel
yet. To add to that the kernel module source packages don't compile.
Attached is the build log

It's currently fixed again and should stay so, as long as I (or someone else
notices there's a new upload required).
This shouldn't be an issue once the kernel is stable, so please just reopen in
case it's out of sync already, but I should notice this myself, so don't
hurry.. ;)

Unfortunately not. This morning launchpad had a build failed note for
virtualbox-ose-modules for version 7
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose-modules/7), looks like
version 8 just got added half an hour ago but I can't find binaries for it
yet. I will check back tomorrow.

Gabriel: sure. That's the essential part of what the virtualbox-ose-modules
package provides: the precompiled kernel module (which you have now compiled
manually).
Can you please confirm that it works for you with the packages mentioned above,
too?

Interestingly, if you install virtualbox-ose-source and compile it with
module-assistant, it works just fine.

It's really a bug in virtualbox-ose-modules, which is not available for Hardy
yet.
I've started preparing a new upload and will finish it tomorrow.

Err.. actually virtualbox-ose-modules should have been uploaded for Hardy
already.
You should have e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-5-generic (from
virtualbox-ose-modules 7) and virtualbox-ose 1.5.4-dfsg-4ubuntu1.
I guess the 1.5.4 package was not available at that time for you.
