currently happening to me on Ubuntu 20.10. Never had any issues
installing linux systems until I installed Ubuntu 20.10
"executing grub install /dev/sda failed this is a fatal error"

I had this error on Ubuntu Mate 20.04, also when running grub-install
chroot'ed to the failed installation. After converting the partition
table from MBR to GPT, grub-install worked.

I got the same bug when I tried to install ubutnu 20.04LTS on my MSI
laptop (GL72m 7Rex) using the live gui, same error appears when I do a
boot-repair.
