The timing there and the fact that the service hasn't been announced yet
is a bit unfortunate. The issue raised there is addressed now by an
upload which change the default. Ubuntu Pro will make sense for desktop
users including services as livepatch and ubuntu advantage applications

Alright, so after discussion we will change the gsettings key to be
false and override to true for ubuntu sessions, that gives an easy way
for any flavor to opt in by doing the same if they want

whether it is advantageous for favours I can't really say - all I can
see on https://ubuntu.com is ubuntu pro for AWS and Azure.
I fail to see the immediate relevance for community flavours where
desktop/laptop based flavours are asked to support their key packages
typically for 3 years
I'm going to assign myself that bug to fix at least the 'don't display
if software-properties isn't installed'
Since Ubuntu Pro hasn't been launched yet it's a bit unclear to me if
it's meant to be available to flavor, I will get that question answered

I didn't think that Ubuntu Pro was a service being officially extended
to flavours? This is why I thought the notification might be a mistake.
If I add the following gschema override, it prevents the notification
from appearing on Ubuntu MATE.

the flavor users still use the ubuntu archive and would benefit from
extended security for their OS no? or is the way it's presented which
isn't adapted?
we can easily make that notification display only in Ubuntu session if
that's what you want though but I would like to confirm first it's not
