Kinda fixed.
I think this bug has to be reassigned to the kernel package linux-
image-2.6.24-12-386. Sound works in linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic
and linux-image-2.6.24-12-rt.

Hmm, it is an fairly old Asus Nfore4 Socket 939 board with a Athlon X2
and it works out of the box with nearly all distros and live CDs.
