Why are you using 2.6.30-2 instead of 2.6.31-14.47?
because 2.6.31-14 had display issues with nvidia 185. I upgraded to
nvidia 190.42 so I can move up to 2.6.31-14, and sound now works.

On fresh i386 Intrepid Install on a equivalent motherboard, the sound
is't working quite right.
If device ALC850 is choosen, only one volume meter is shown, but nvidia
CK804 shows several meters.
I was able to get sound, but the center speaker is not working, surround
