I just remembered that a while back I tried a custom DSTD for another problem
with this laptop. I wonder if this could point in the direction to look into.
(I am not using a customer DSTD anymore, and as far as I understood custom
DSTDs are not supported anymore out of the box in newer kernels).
Just for everyone's info, this bug is still around in 10.04 with updates
up until 2010-05-03.

Hi Pepe,
Unfortunately, yes it is still an issue with 9.10. I've updated this
morning to:
Linux bm-laptop1 2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 3 22:07:16 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and it still occurs. One change though, what I previously wrote about
turning the radio switch off and then
I have found a work around which I use now:
If I switch of the Wifi card with the switch on the laptop (physical
switch) and then unplug the powercord and then switch on the wifi card
again, everything works fine! Whether the powercord is inserted or
not when switching the Wifi card on again.
