With last VirtualBox version (not OSE) and with last LTS there is no
issue. I think we can mark it as fix released.

Confirmed for VirtualBox OSE 3.0.4 and 3.0.6
VirtualBox shows the error message Failed to eject the disk from the
virtual drive. The drive may be locked by the guest operating system.
Please check this and try again..

I tried again to re-install 9.10 but the same issue happens (obviously I
tried to umount my CDROM from virtualbox menu)
Unfortunately I don't use VirtualBox OSE so I know that it's not a
supported software for Ubuntu but I thought that it could be an issue
that is present also with real hardware
What version of virtualbox do you use? is this reproducible?, sometimes
I get same message when I am using CDROM in base system (have you tried
to umount your CDROM from virtualbox menu?).
