System actually does power off after a very long time. Currently testing using
the ubuntu suspend testing script, which I should
have done before changing the status of this bug.

The suspend script completed. Was the computer supposed to wake up after some
time?
the first suspend failed, then all the rest succeed after about 15 minutes.
