I have this same issue. I am connecting to my work's hidden wireless
network and I don't have the option for unhiding the ESSID. I start my
laptop, once booted I choose 'Connect to Hidden Wireless Network...',
select the correct network listed in the new window's dropdown, and the
data for that

Reproduced on Sony Vaio VGN-C2Z
The Connect button on nm-applet is disabled. I have to delete the
entry under the Wireless tab, close it and re-add it to reconnect.

Similar problem happened to me. I would say that I connected to the
hidden network once, even if I don't remember if that was when using
jaunty or after upgrade to karmic.
What I'm totally sure is that I've attempted to connect to a hidden
network (with no password needed) and the

macbookpro...
