It appears from this bug and the referenced answer that the bug is
'fixed' because you can go to HP's website and download updated
software. How is this fixed if the hplip package in Ubuntu hasn't been
updated?

I have the same problem with my HP Color LaserJet CP1515n. The network
printer used to work under Ubuntu 9.04 and ceased working after the
upgrade to 9.10.

Can someone please tell me what could cause an error
