I noticed this behaviour only while connecting with xming.
It works fine while
* connecting from a different linux box
* i upgraded to a new version of xming and now it works too.
For me it seems as it was sthg. xming-related and not a bug in the xdmcp

I can confirm this. It happens with either gdm or kdm, but only on a
KDE session. I'm running Ubuntu Edgy with the latest updates as of a
few hours ago.
