My symptoms are an utter inability to have a working framebuffer console
which creates a cascade of failure ending with what I learned was called
plymouth freezing with a solid white bar of characters when I
blacklisted all framebuffer/nvidia/nouveau related modules in chroot to
try and work around this issue.
It boots, there's text, then it switches to graphics mode and the screen
is blank. ONE time with an external monitor hooked up I got slightly
farther in, but my laptop just reacts poorly to the updated framebuffer.
