This bug affects me as well. Good to hear that it will be fixed soon. Though it seems as of right now it is available in Lucid repositories. I feel that while an archive freeze may be in effect, a notice should be made available to users. This could be easily done on the Beta 1 Known Issues

The recalled driver is still present in the Ubuntu repositories, with no earlier or later driver available. (the nvidia-glx-185 package is now a metapackage for nvidia-current, which is Nvidia's 195.18 driver). Don't you think this should be fixed? -- fan speed issue in 195.36.08 and 195.36.03
