I used following version of wine on ubuntu - wine1.2 1.1.42-0ubuntu4.
But the problem still remains.
While wine1.0 1.0.1-0ubuntu13 has no issues with the fonts.

I had also face same problem in fedora 13
i just tried to reinstall only older font version but keeping version of wine
at 1.2
as
rpm -i --force wine-fonts-1.1.38-1.fc13.noarch.rpm
and it works
