Fixed by commenting out two lines containing
self.userobj.removeFromGroup(origprimarygroup) in user_dialogs.py.

Thanks for reporting this.
I think only showing the groups the user is already in (secondary groups +
current primary group) makes some sense, but I am not sure.
I'm also not sure if changing the user's primary group should make the old
primary a secondary, but as you explained the display
Thanks for following up on this so quickly.
I see your point. However, if the user doesn't check that Privileges
groups tab (carefully), then s/he might not know s/he had been deleted from
the group.
To me personally, the issue of deciding which is primary is largely separate
from the issue
