Hi there! I can confirm this problem, too. Apparently this is caused by problems in parsing the /etc/gshadow information. It is fixed in Debian, see their bug report: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=569899 (Jerzy: this is why a password in /etc/group -- bad idea :-) -- works).

Hello, I confirm this problem, after short investigation i've found that: - if password is in /etc/gpasswd - newgrp doesn't work, - if password is in /etc/group then newgrp works as expected. So temprorary solution is to put group password into /etc/group file, hashed with md5 (for obvious reason
