I'm experiencing this bug on Arch Linux. Russian Arch users report that
downgrading pixman from 0.20.0 to 0.18.4 solves the problem:

maverick without xorg-edgers repo.

give me nothing,
synaptic say that xorg-edgers repo. was blocked on upgrade to maverick.

This looks like three cairo-drawing calls are just not executed... for
whatever reason. Since people reported this on intel and nvidia (using
the proprietary driver) I'm expecting some Xlib-issue with pattern-
padding to be the culprit.
As notify-osd's rendering code has not changed at all this

I meant this bug mainly as a heads-up for Mirco. In the next cycle it
probably will become a bug in Ubuntu itself due to the forward looking
nature of xorg edgers..
