Using banshee 1.9.0 on ubuntu 10.10 amd64 here.
Bought an album at amazon, used the import function and take a look at
the picture. Some tracks are duped while importing but i cannot see ugly
chars that cause the old problem. The files instead are not duped on the
drive.

Not in full, i bought a fresh album at amazon and first import it over
the file/import media to my library. Two files comes up doubled with
ecactly same file target. Take a look at my picture. Banshee 1.9.0 git
doubled some tracks, buy 10 and get 12;-)
maybe this requirement is a duplicate of bug 501484 ?
