This is what gconf-editor looks like, at the same time I ran this:
$ gconftool -g /apps/update-notifier/auto_launch
false
At the same time, clicking on that auto launch thing does not affect the output
of the above command.

That seems to be related to it being run over ssh, but the gconftool
isn't properly setting it when it should be setting it when using ssh.
