Same for me on up to date Precise.
I tried pci=noacpi and older kernelsas mentioned above, but nothing
helps.
I recognized this regression after upgrading to precise.

NattyOneiric - intel 82945G/GZ graphics card -
Posted in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/805700,
Hi,
Having similar problem on a thin client with Intel 945GSE and Atom N270 CPU.
We can only get up to 1280x1024 resolution although it supports up to 1920x1200.
X defaults to vesa and not intel driver.

Bugs,
Could somebody report this to Intel developers? The mail sent to the
kernel mailing list seems to have been missed. You can file a bug to the
X.org bug tracker at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg
Feel free to paste a link to the mail, which has detailed information:
Great!
I had the same problem (reported with bug report 902616) on the same Foxconn
board, same intel graphic chip with intel atom 230 processor. The option
pci=noacpi lets the problem disappear, miraculously.
Of coursed, then I'm missing acpi -- maybe 12.04 will be able to solve that
problem
Dear all,
We finally found a workaround : the grub option pci=noacpi allows to boot
using intel driver !
I however have no idea to explain why it works...
Here is the link that helped us :

Hello I'm a friend of Ghislain Bugnicourt,

Dear all,
I'm sorry but none of your solutions work in my case.
First, I had already tried to add the HorizSync a

NattyOneiric - intel
Dear all,
Sorry for the double post : I'm not used to this damned mac keyboard !
As I was saying, I had already tried to add the HorizSync and VertRefresh
options in xorg.conf and it didn't change anything.
I also installed mesa-utils (after installing Ubuntu 11.10 because I didn't

@jose,
I tried it with your instructions, but some remarks:
1. should this also allow this, then for desktop effects to be enabled?
2. I think the correct command for step 2 is sudo X -configure :1
with configure only I got errors
3. I had now old xorg.conf, and typing now, also without

I got it working by:
1. sudo apt-get install mesa-util
2. in a terminal try it with compiz --replace
3. after the reboot, try it with ubuntu (it was set to ubuntu2d)
I do however, have an similair problem with an eeepc 900, which is not yet
fixed.
mesa-util was allready installed ;-(

Hi there. This is a VERY common problem with Intel chipsets and video
cards. I have been posting some steps in different questions in the
answer tracker, and those usually work to solve the problem. Here they
are:
1.- Search the values of HorizSync and VertRefresh of your monitor.
2.- Open a
Hi,
I already changed the title of this bug : same problem with Oneiric, except
that Unity 3D works, but still with the vesa driver and not with intel,
resulting in poor video settings (bad ratio aspect, unknown screen, desktop
spreading out of the screen).
I'm still forced to use ubuntu 10.04.
Hey ghislain-bugnicourt,
You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.
If it's
