This is an old bug 595896 as much the same as this one. I sent a patch
upstream at the time but it was not got merged then.
It's a good idea we work it out this time.

1. without thinkpad_acpi module (rmmod thinkpad_acpi)
2. Oneiric with and without the thinkpad_acpi modue

Oneiric without thinkpad_acpi module: mute works, mute key does lit, OSD
does NOT show
Oneiric with thinkpad_acpi module: mute works AFTER volume up/down, mute
key DOES NOT lit, OSD shown after volume up/down
Oneiric with modprobe thinkpad_acpi enable=0: mute works,

Negative on comment #4, although the mute key light does light up on
the keyboard now, it now does not mute the sound at all.
