cuby, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

I have the same disconnections problem.

Title:
rt2800 used
After a recent clean install of ubuntu 12.04 amd64 on my system i now have this
error.
Constant disconnections and flakyness, and i get no message of connection being
lost.
Didn't have any problem before, probably because of correct driver
getting loaded.
An install of driver rt2860 as listed
No panic occurred since I switched to that kernel, but the intermittent
connection issues are still a problem.

With the above kernel from oneiric-proposed (3.0.0-15.25) rt2800 is
still used, but from initial testing it looks like the connection is
stable and no kernel panic occurs. I will report back after further
testing.

It would be helpful to still get the apport-collect data, so it can help
find duplicate bugs to this issue.

Joseph, Sorry for the delay.
I updated the driver in both eee pcs I have access. If I do apport-collect over
there it will give misleading informations.
Do you want that information anyway?
I don't know if some of the other affected fellows can do this...

It looks like rt2860 driver causes some kernel panic :

Nicolas, the rt2800 seems to cause the kernel panic, not the rt2860sta.

Joseph, the latest kernel doesn't solve the problem. I tested it in
another asus eeepc (not mine) and the problem persists. The correct
driver is not used.

Some details of the bug are incorrect. It seems I posted the bug from my
main computer and not from the actual Asus EEEPC 901... The 901 is not
amd64 :). If other information is needed, please ask.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the release
candidate kernel versus the daily build. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel,
