Public bug reported: Problem :
My problem is, i have a lot of problems with floppy disks in my machine, some problems here are probably bug duplicates, but I will point the original bug. My floppy drive isnt't auto detected, so I need to add a entry for my floppy drive in /etc/fstab (/dev/fd0 /media/Floppy msdos,vfat,ext2,ext3,hfs defaults, user 0 0). I don't remember seeing some bug reports about this. Floppy disks aren't auto mounted. I need to click in the computer>floppy icon. Sadly it don't go to the mount point, going to / as reported in another bug, so I need to click a second time in computer>floppy to open it (in bug #33620, the reporter said the clicking twice "produces nothing", so its a little different). Another irritating problem is: gfloppy fail to succesful format a floppy that have bad blocks, it only warn the user about the block location and stops, the floppy don't mount anymore, needing to reformat it without check for bad blocks. Floppy disk labels aren't show in computer>floppy or in desktop>floppy, like in a cd for example, so this is a non consistent gui behaviour. And to finish this novel, sadly novel, (good times when i remember Mac OS, I don't really wan't to say this, but I'm furious). Gfloppy don't format a floppy in hfs, so the user need to go the terminal. I really don't use much floppy disks, but we are in 2007 in the hd era, so floppy support must be at least very good. Specs: Ubuntu 6.10 i386 Motherboard PCCHIPS M748LMRT I can provide more help in this, with some feedback. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Floppy don't detected , don't auto mount, don't show volume name, very strange behaviour https://launchpad.net/bugs/86844 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
