This sounds similar to the issue described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/1178179
A workaround that solved the issue for me was to disable the MTP plugin.

Weird. Your log doesn't seem to have any indication of a fatal error causing a
crash. Is it complete, as in, is it the full --debug output including the crash?

There's no more output. I can add to it that it does not exit, but it
becomes unresponsive to any click.
Additionally prior to the freeze, the Ubuntu dialog pops up with Ask
what to do etc. and that disappears immediately. It just flashes for a
second. I'm not sure if that's relevant.

I ran:
banshee --debug
Then I connected the device. Banshee works for a few seconds until the
ubuntu dialog What do you want to do flashes and then it becomes
unresponsive.
Then I run in a different terminal:
killall -SIGHUP banshee
That only
Sorry, I really meant killall -SIGQUIT banshee.

I just experienced the same on my system:
IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T61 - running Ubuntu 10.10
I attached my Droid BIONIC Android phone to the USB cable while running Banshee
...
it immediately crashes! Duplicatable, repeats the same every time, no matter
what mode I use when connecting:
