I had an Ubuntu version installed about a year ago maybe, that would have been the latest release, and the USB problem existed at that time as well. I ran the lsusb -v, and saw access denied in the log, so ran a sudo lsusb -v, which is on the second half. Thanks for taking a look. I have a

No I didn't, sorry my mistake. Here is a repeat, with/without sudo. Devices are an iomega external drive with a USB data and USB power connection in one cord to drive (light is on), a PNY flash drive (light is on), and a MS optical mouse (light is not on, normally comes on when you move the
