This bug is a slightly confused combination of two bugs.
First, Compiz resizes a window to less than its minimum width if you
semi-maximize it on the left, but not if you semi-maximize it on the
right. This

Sorry.)

@ matthew, i just read your second comment now, that does make things
clearer, but the right side, left side issues do not hold true in my
case, they both provide the same result

@Chauncellor, It can not be reproduced in unity2d. Unity2d does not
currently have the window snap feature that seems to be causing this
problem.

Well, I can't reproduce this on 12.04. Which isn't to say the bug isn't
there, but I would consider this s a software-center thing which,
regardless, has been fixed as some point.

If i may, what is your resolution?

Ah, I just did this at 1024x768 (hadn't done it at a low-enough
resolution) and it does trigger on 12.04.
Regardless, I think this not a compiz bug since it's doing what it's
supposed to. Software-center should provide functionality for handling
this (should it desire to) and, most importantly,
Thanks Dylan, I add a compiz task to get input on how they view it. I
don't know currently what more I can do on the application side other
than to set a minimum size.

Thanks for your bugreport.
When I set my display to a small resolution (like 1024x768) and push it to the
side I can reproduce the bug.
Doing that just by trying to resize the window will not work as there is a
minimal size that will be honored.
** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu)
I wonder if that is a problem with compiz actually that it forces the
window to a size that is below its minimium size.

I do agree with you that the window is being forced below it's minimum
width. I'm not sure who is at fault for that tho, compiz, or software-
center. Depending on how you look at it, both could be blamed in
different scenarios.
The normal resolution i use, (and experience the problem in) is:
still happens in 12.04
