Could you please attach the i915_error_state file which dmesg mentions?
It should explain why the hang happens.
It should be available in /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state..

Can you re-enable RC6 again and confirm the bug comes back?

I was able to reproduce this with 3.2.0-17.27:
Linux gilgamesch 3.2.0-17-generic #27-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 24 15:37:36 UTC

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is

While I was using googleearth, the screen suddenly turned black. I
logged in from another machine and found this at the
Hard to say. I upgraded to precise, but haven't been using googleearth

So, now I retried the same using the kernel from oneiric:
Linux gilgamesch 3.0.0-16-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 27 17:44:39 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and I was *not* able to reproduce the crash. So it's a regression for
sure.

Would it be possible for you to test with RC6 disabled?
To disable RC6, do the following:
Hold down Left-Shift key to enter the Grub menu on boot
Hit 'e' to edit the kernel command line
Append i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 as a kernel boot parameter
For example: linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-17-generic ...

I guess the topmost error is more interesting:
[ 387.496096] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[ 387.496113] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in
/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
[ 387.497573] [drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR*
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.
