Related to that: I noticed that the current gutsy CD correctly detected
my LCD's resolution (1280x1024), which is the first time Ubuntu does
that *ever* (through the DVI cable anyway) :-). This is is due to the
fact that xorg.conf does not contain any Modes lines any more, usually
on my system

I had the same problem. It's a nasty bug: it also affects general system
performance. For example: Firefox started much slower.
The suggested solution, using mvoncken's list, solved the problem. I
hope this bug will be fixed in Gutsy.

After manually umounting the cd, I can see nautilus correctly telling me that
there is no free space, so this bug can be closed, sorry for the delay.

Wrong behavior after 'not enough space on hard drive'
This is due to a bug in python 2.5 (maybe fixed in python's svn).
There's a workaround in mercurial here:

If it is any use to anyone investigating this bug, here is my syslog
file from the last couple of days, and you can see in it where I have
enabled roaming mode on eth0.
I don't know if this helps any, but if you need any other logs files or
configuration files, just let me know.

I have this problem too. However, it had been working fine, so I can
only imagine that an update has broken it. Sadly I don't need to connect
to my VPN very often, so it might have broken from a patch months ago
and I'd not have noticed.
